Description

Local small boat harbor on the western shore of the Roskildefjord

Navigation

The unlit waters can only be accessed during the day. From the fairway of the Roskildefjord, sail directly towards the harbor on a westerly course. When entering the harbor, keep closer to the southern pier head. Pay attention to the many gillnets in the shallow water area around the harbor.

Berths

In the harbor, which is very busy with local small boats, guests will only find limited mooring options. The water depth is approx. 1.5m.

Surroundings

The harbor only offers very basic sanitary facilities and no service or supply options.

Østby Havn: The jetty of the lime works 2.5 nm south of Skuldelev may not be used by pleasure craft.

NV Land Guide

Most pleasure craft sail past Skuldelev, which is understandable, because apart from the boats of recreational fishermen, a reed belt on the fjord shore and a small, wooden clubhouse, there is nothing worth mentioning. There is a bathing pontoon and a jetty on the small beach 50 meters to the south. Typical vacation homes line the 3 km path to the shops in the village.

Skuldelev did not always sleep the sleepy sleep. The fjord strait was once of strategic importance to the Vikings of the Roskildefjord. This is evidenced by the boats found in the Viking Museum in Roskilde. They had been sunk in the narrows (loaded with large stones) as protection against raids by foreign fleets.

Many decades ago, the fishermen of Skuldelev claimed that the stone barrier in the "Pepper Channel" contained a ship. They believed that a sailing ship belonging to Queen Margaret I lay there. The fishermen's claim could only be verified with new diving equipment. The sensation was perfect when parts of Viking boats were discovered.

The jetty at the lime works, 2.5 nautical miles south of Skuldelev, is not allowed to be used by pleasure craft.
