Description

Large and modern marina complex with approx. 400 berths directly south of the commercial port of Aarhus, 1.5 km from the city center. There are several restaurants to choose from right by the harbor.

The complex is a little dated overall. However, the harbour website offers some good tips and explanations for guest sailors: https://www.marselisborghavn.dk/de/sailors/

NV Cruising Guide

Navigation

The approach to the lighted harbor is unproblematic day and night. The approach is in a westerly direction to the designated entrance.

Berths

For guest boats, there are sufficient moorings on jetties with stern masts, which are marked with green signs. The water depths are 2.5 - 3m. The western basin is a little nicer.

The modern marina has good services with  lounges, a guest kitchen and a café. Fuel is available in the harbor. Harbour dues, showers and electricity are paid via a&nbspscreen behind the harbour office.

Surroundings

Further supply options are offered by Aarhus - 20 minutes by bus, just under 2km by bike. Donkey Republic rents out orange city bikes via an app.

With NW winds, you have to expect odor nuisance from the sewage treatment plant.

NV Land Guide

The modern marina is slightly further away from the center of Aarhus than the North Harbor, but much closer to the parks and forests south of Denmark's second largest city. Mindepark, Marselisborg Skov and Storskov (skov = forest) form the kilometer-long, green coastal strip, which is ideal for hiking and cycling tours - sightseeing included.

The summer residence of the Danish Queen and her family is about one kilometer from the berth: Marselisborg Castle with a well-kept castle park. When Her Highness is in the castle, she (or the castle) is guarded by the bodyguard. The daily shift change at 12 noon is prepared for tourists. The Queen's absence means forgoing this service, but in return she has free access to the park from sunrise to sunset. Not far from the palace is the "Forest Botanical Garden" of Minde Park, where rare native plants can be seen alongside exotic plants. The 26-hectare Minde Park was created in 1925 by the city of Aarhus as a memorial park with a memorial to the Danish-minded North Silesians who died in the First World War. To the southwest of the royal residence is a deer park, to the west the Science and History Museum and to the northwest the Aarhus Racecourse.

There are many places to stop and eat in the southern forests, for example at Thors Mølle, the Varna Cafeteria at Ørnereden Serving Station and the Skovmølle at Moesgaard Castle, which is well worth a visit. The distance to the latter in the southern forests is a good five kilometers. Nevertheless, it is worth making the journey here (good bus connections), as it is home to the MOMU, a world-renowned ethnographic and archaeological museum. In addition to its attractively presented exhibitions, it impresses not least with its modern architecture.

The ethnographic and archaeological collections, the finds from the Stone Age, Bronze Age, Iron Age and the Viking Age are impressive in themselves.

But far more fascinating is Denmark's only fully preserved bog body from the Iron Age, the so-called Greybeam Man. Over a period of 2,300 years, the bog has preserved him so well that his skin, hair, nails and teeth have hardly suffered any damage. Even the death cut that the victim of a fertility cult made to his neck can still be seen.

The museum in the Herrenhof, to which a magnificent avenue of rowan trees leads, also includes a prehistoric nature trail several kilometers long in the castle's forest. Its stations include finds from the Bronze Age and Stone Age as well as reconstructions of houses from the Iron Age and Viking Age. Detailed descriptions of the museum exhibitions and the nature trail are available at the museum.

Two other sights should be mentioned that can be reached quickly from the harbor: "Det danske Brandværnsmuseum" and "Tivoli-Friheden". The fire department museum at 56 Daigas Avenue, 500 meters northwest of the harbour, is considered the largest of its kind in the world. The collection includes 80 vehicles, numerous horse-drawn carriages, handcarts, a steam fire engine and all kinds of equipment from the bygone days of the fire department, with the oldest fire engine dating back to 1823. The museum, housed in a former streetcar depot, also has play facilities for children (including a small fire engine).

Children will have even more fun at Aarhus Amusement Park, located 500 meters further west on the edge of the forest, which offers old-fashioned rides as well as artist performances and square concerts. Large flowering areas between landscaped ponds are a trademark of the amusement park, which has numerous restaurants, cafés and snack bars. The Aarhus Symphony Orchestra performs many of its summer concerts in the Marselisborg Hall in Tivoli-Friheden.
