Description

Industrial and commercial harbour in the northern part of Snævringen with a marina about 3/4sm southwest of the industrial facilities.

NV Cruising Guide

Navigation

The approach to the fired marina is directly from the fairway. From the yellow buoy (Fl.Y.3s), steer into the entrance at about 295°, leaving the south cardinal buoy (Q(6) LFl.15s) on the starboard side. The intermittent strong setting current decreases again just before the entrance.

Berths

The industrial and commercial harbour cannot be recommended for yachts. You can moor in the eastern harbour, the "Gamle Havn", at the very end of the basin close to the city centre (no plan). The modern marina 3/4sm southwest of the industrial harbour facilities is a good alternative. Guest berths can be found at 3m water depth (green signs). The harbour is very heavily used by local pleasure craft.

Surroundings

In the marina there are limited supply possibilities. But the 2km away Fredericia offers all the shopping opportunities of a city.

NV Land Guide

At first glance, very little reminds you that Fredericia is an old fortress town. The smoking factory chimneys, the large phosphate factory, bulky oil tanks and a noisy industrial harbour are hard to ignore. Most pleasure boaters will therefore give the industrial town a wide berth, although it is well worth a short detour if you are interested in history and culture. The 17th century ramparts, for example, are unique. With a powder tower built in 1675 and cannon emplacements from 1849, they form a 5.5km semicircle around old Fredericia.

The new Erritsø sports boat harbour is situated a little away from the noisy industrial town and about 1000 metres southwest of Fredericia harbour. The clubrooms of the sailing and motorboat club are also available for guests. There is a cosy restaurant at the harbour. A bus runs to the city centre, two kilometres away.

It was primarily for military strategic reasons in 1649 that Frederick lll. Caused to build the city. To lure labor, the king promised the inhabitants a fifty-year tax holiday. In addition, Fredericia became the only city in Denmark where absolute religious freedom prevailed. Many Jews and Huguenots settled here. Christian V, successor of Frederick lll, the population was still not high enough. He gave asylum to indebted citizens and foreign criminals, but thus brought the city into disrepute. In 1821 the right of asylum was revoked.

The fortifications of Fredericia were under heavy fire several times and did not always prove their worth in numerous wars. However, a victory over the Prussians on July 6, 1849 is commemorated by one of the most famous Danish monuments: the brave country soldier by sculptor H. W Bissen. Standing inside the ramparts, the statue holds a laurel bush in its right hand and a rifle in its left. This is to document the will to win and the offer of peace. Secretly, on July 6, 1849, the Danish troops had been reinforced by sea and a sortie against the Prussian besiegers was successful. The monument stands at the Prince's gate. On July 6 each year, the victory is commemorated with a celebration.

From the water tower on the ramparts, you can overlook the city with its many historic buildings and the Little Belt.

The Fredericias Museum at 10 Jernbanegade consists of five old half-timbered houses. The wartime past, religious freedom and old local crafts are the themes of the exhibition, which also commemorates tobacco production in Fredericia.

Over 300 dolls from around 1860 to 1930 and tin toys from the period 1915 to 1960 are on display in the dolls' house at Prinsessegade 4.

A stone's throw from the railway station, unemployed people have built a play park for children with slides swings and climbing frames, covering eight hectares(!). So if you want to offer your offspring something during your holiday cruise, this is the place to do it.

There are several churches worth seeing in Fredericia, including St Knuds Church in Sjællandsgade Trinitatis Church in Danmarksgade and St Michaelis Church in Vendersgade

On the corner of Prinzengade/Kongensgade stands the oldest house in the town. It was built around 1600. Also worth seeing is the vintage locomotive that stands at the foot of the former defensive wall (Sjaelandsgade / corner of Vester Voltgade).

Kannste vergessen…
