Description

Attention:
The harbor is closed to all boat traffic due to storm damage sustained in the fall of 2023 and is expected to remain closed until summer 2026!&

The idyllic former mini-commercial harbor is located approximately 1 nm southwest of the Hestehoved lighthouse, situated at the Baltic Sea mouth of Grønsundet.

NV Cruising Guide

Navigation

Approach to the lit harbor is possible day and night. Due to the large number of fixed nets, one should approach the harbor at night with great caution. The largest fixed net is located south of the harbor near Præstebjerg Rev and extends about 1.5 nautical miles out to sea, roughly to the unlit eastern buoy (WP 414). From here, head 295° toward the harbor. There are also gillnets north of the harbor, but they do not extend as far out to sea. There are occasional passages between the nets, but these should only be used by those familiar with the area. The harbor entrance designated during the season is prone to silting up, especially at the head of the eastern breakwater. The green buoy must be passed on the starboard side upon entry.

Berths

Visitors will find a limited number of berths on the inner sides of the harbor piers, where the water depth is 2–2.5 meters. The harbor is often crowded during the season.

The water depth in the berths is 2.5 meters

It’s deep enough at the pier :)

Surroundings

This cozy harbor offers limited amenities. The beautiful beech forests near the village are perfect for long walks. Hidden in the woods is a 100-year-old restaurant—the Pomle Nakke. It sits on a 100-meter-high hill, offering views of the Baltic Sea and, on a clear day, all the way to Møn.

NV Land Guide

The active skipper looking for peace and relaxation in a beautiful natural setting will love it here. The few houses in the fishing village are surrounded by forest, and a lovely swimming beach stretches south of the village to the steep shoreline.

Originally, the harbor was built for shipping timber; it was only later that fishermen took over. Due to the abundant tree population, a sawmill was even built at this “strategically favorable” harbor, whose chimney and buildings do not detract from the tranquil atmosphere of the village. Many of the 27 “reed houses” are protected from wind and cold in an unusual way: the walls, covered with a layer of straw, were erected immediately after the storm surge of 1872, so that the thatched buildings give the impression of being made entirely of straw. The architectural style is unique in Denmark.

Unfortunately, there are no bicycles to rent here, as the surroundings are perfect for cycling tours. But hiking is no less recommended. The forest of Korselitse, crisscrossed by hiking trails, for example, begins right at the northern edge of town. The cliff edge of the forest near the Hestehoved Lighthouse is an ideal vantage point. On clear days, you can see all the way to the island of Møn. It is about four kilometers from the lighthouse to the port of Hesnæs.

The hike south along the wooded cliffs is interesting for two reasons:

First, after three kilometers, the weary hiker can rest and refuel at an inn right on the cliffs at Pomle Nakke, and second, about five kilometers before Hesnæs, they come upon the "Halskov Vænge" forest, which was a large burial ground during the Stone Age. The forest has been set up as a small “nature museum” and houses an unusually large number of ancient artifacts. Information panels and display cases provide details about the origin of the graves, five of which date from the Neolithic period and about 70 from the Bronze Age. Some of the stones were carved with small, bowl-shaped indentations during the Bronze Age, likely fertility symbols. After the area was designated a protected site in 1974, the undergrowth was cleared, and sheep now graze there to prevent the graves from becoming overgrown with brush again. In a wooden house in the middle of the forest, visitors can pick up an information brochure about the prehistoric sites.

The ruins of Bønned shown on the map are the remains of a castle that belonged to the knight Ulfstrand (see also Stubbekøbing). Later, the son of King Christian IV established a hunting lodge here. After a fire in 1700, the castle fell into disrepair and was later demolished.

Comments

Sehr idyllischer, abgelegene Hafen. Die Riesenboxen (knapp 20 m lang und Pfahlabstand 4-5 m) sind für kleinere Boote eine Herausforderung...

Boxen leider < 2,5 m An der Mole tief genug.
