Description

The town of Grebaštica, situated at the end of the southern bay, was an important town in the Middle Ages. When the Turks invaded the area around the town of Grebaštica at the end of the 15th century, the wealthy town of Grebaštica decided in 1497 to build a protective wall (bedem in Croatian) for the population.

It runs from the north to the south shore across the narrow neck of the Oštrica peninsula. An impressive example of medieval defensive walls and well worth a visit.

When the plague ravaged Europe, a new use was found for the wall - it separated the sick from the healthy.
Today, the wooded area of the peninsula is a popular hiking area and in the northern bay of Uvala Mirine you can find a good anchorage.
