The approach to the well-fired commercial harbour is unproblematic day and night. From the southern cardinal buoy (Q(6)+LFl.15s), a peat light (2 Iso.2s) leads through the buoyed fairway at approx. 019°. The approach to Marina Getterön is directly from the main fairway after passing the western, lighted breakwater.

Berths

 At Getterön Marina, guests moor at the eastern long bridge at 2 - 3 m water depth. However, from here the distance to the town is around 4 km.

Surroundings

The large town of Varberg offers very good supply possibilities. Fuel and repair service are located in the marina "Getterön", where there is a bus connection to Varberg, there is also a boat connection every hour. Varberg's old town is well worth a visit. There is a ferry connection from the commercial harbour to Grenaa in Denmark. The harbour has STF guest harbour standard.

Halland's second largest city lies on a geological border - where the sandy bays of the south gradually merge into the rocky coasts of the north. It was an important strategic and political border for the Danes in the Middle Ages, when southwestern Sweden was still part of the Danish kingdom. The checkerboard pattern characteristic of many Swedish towns dominates the streetscape in the centre of the town of 20,000 inhabitants, which is now as popular a seaside resort as the neighbouring town of Falkenberg. A bathhouse with Moorish domes (near the town harbour), built as early as 1870, is an indication that the bathing culture had already taken off at the beginning of the last century. Varberg also made a name for itself as a health resort after the discovery of a spring in 1811. Today, however, only seawater is used.

An attraction of the first rank is the fortress built on rocks by the sea in 1287, from whose ramparts (café terrace between the bastions) you have a beautiful view of the town and the Kattegat. The rooms of the imposing castle house a much admired museum, where you can see the only completely preserved costume from the early Middle Ages in the world. It clothed the 600-year-old bog body of the Bockstenman. Among the 35,000 exhibits is also the ball head that ended the life of the Swedish king Charles XII. The history of the city is described in words and pictures. The casemates of the fortress can also be visited. The museum is open daily during the summer months.

The Samfärdsel Museum in Charles XI's stable in the fortress contains a collection of older wagons, boats and bicycles. Old motorcycles are also on display there.

The Varberg fortress was built as early as the 13th century by Count Jacob of Halland, expanded by Christian IV around 1640, and was the largest and militarily strongest castle on the Kattegat during the 130-year Kalmarar Union (union of Scandinavia). The Danes did not succeed in maintaining their position of power between Gothenburg and Malmö. In 1645 they had to surrender Halland and the castle to the Swedes, which thus lost its strategic value and served only as a prison. The most famous state prisoner was the presumed instigator of the assassination attempt on King Gustav III, General Pechlin. The gravestone of the general buried in Varberg, who died without having made a confession, is placed in the castle museum.

Today the castle houses a youth hostel in addition to a restaurant. The castle courtyard is often used for concerts of all kinds in the summer. Societetsparken with Societetshuset (Society Park with Society House) was laid out in 1883 and restored in 1953. The park is a popular meeting place during the summer months. Also worth seeing is the glassworks at the harbour, which can be visited from July to August.

A nice attraction in the townscape is the market, which is adorned by a bronze figure by Bror Marklund, "Boy and Girl Playing Ball", created in 1939.

Kilometres of sandy and rocky beaches lie west of the town on the Getterön peninsula and south of Varberg in the Apelviken. Naturism is practiced at almost all bathing spots. On Getterön, signs urge people to be considerate of nature. The peninsula is a bird reserve and a stopover for migratory birds. Over a hundred species of birds build their nests here, including the ruff and the beak duck. There is a boat connection between the marina and Varberg town centre.

Varberg's 450,000-square-metre Sommerland, five kilometres southeast of Varberg, is a play park with all kinds of attractions for youngsters. Children smaller than one meter are allowed to pass through the entrance gate for free. A little to the east of Sommerland is the Aakulla forest and lake area, an excellent cycling destination with rest cabins, fishing spots, hotels and a cafeteria.

Six kilometres northwest of Varberg, on a Kattegat headland, is Tjolöholm Castle, a 100-year-old Tudor building with a cafeteria and a carriage museum worth seeing.

Broaasen is the name of a burial ground just under four kilometres east of Varberg, with a wide variety of grave types, such as dolmens and trident mounds. Court rings have also been discovered here, where cult sacrifices were determined in prehistoric times.

Varberg itself boasts a large number of restaurants and dance halls. Mention should be made of the restaurant "Oscar" at Borgmästargatan 15, where hits from the 60s and 70s are played every Thursday. Disco shows with Swedish stars are offered by the Sarah Hotell Statt (Kungsgatan 24).
