8° 50’ 34.8” EDescription
North of the Eider barrage is the Eiderdamm lock. It operates 24 hours a day and is controlled by light signals and VHF radio ch.14. The request signal is: sound signal 2x long. The water depth above the lock dam is 2.5 m.
Even in fresh onshore winds, especially when the tide is running out, there is a dangerous steep swell in the buoyed outer Eider. In strong onshore winds or storms, the route can be impassable. The bar, with less than 2m of water in places, is then impassable due to the surf. The quays on both sides of the lock can only be used by pleasure craft as waiting areas for the lock.
