The largest technical coastal protection structure on the German Baltic Sea coast was inaugurated and commissioned on April 27, 2016. The barrier is not manned at normal water levels. It is closed at a water level of around +0.7 m NHN if more than +1.15 m NHN is expected.

Passage through the storm surge barrier in Greifswald-Wieck is not possible at the following times:
