Description

Sutomore was called Spizza when it was part of the Republic of Venice from 1420 to 1797 and subsequently part of Venetian Albania, except for the short period of Turkish occupation. From 1879 to 1918, as the southernmost municipality, it belonged to the Kingdom of Dalmatia within the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The Austrian census of 1910 reported that there were Venetian-speaking families in Spizza as late as the beginning of the 20th century. Sutomore today is known, among other things, for its two-kilometer-long beach. Low prices - compared to neighboring Budva - along with easy access via the Belgrade-Bar railroad line make it a popular destination for tourists, who heavily populate Sutomore, especially during the summer months.
