Description

Yacht harbours on both banks of the estuary of the Schwentine into the Kiel Fjord.

Navigation

The approach is possible day and night. From the green buoy "K3" you can enter the Schwentine. 0.1 nm after the shallow buoy "Nord" you can enter the marina.

Berths

The berths are marked with red and green signs.

Surroundings

To the city centre it is approx. 5 km, well attainable by bus or ferry (direction Reventloubrücke). All supply possibilities in the close environment. In the port shipyard with slipway and mast crane.

NV Land Guide

The scenic Schwentine valley ends at the Schwentine harbour, where there is no longer any question of natural beauty. Instead, shipyards and engineering factories characterize this section of the eastern shore of the fjord, above all the German Naval Yards, formerly Howaldtswerke Deutsche Werft (HDW). The Ostuferhafen to the north is Kiel's largest port and the starting point for shipping traffic to Eastern Europe. You can escape this industrial landscape by taking a trip to the Schwentinetal. The hiking trail along the Schwentine is ideal for this.

Directly opposite the port on the other bank of the Schwentine is the fishing port with the sea fish market, which, however, has long since lost its former economic importance. As almost everywhere on the German Baltic coast, fish turnover has declined significantly here. Even the good reputation of the smoked Kiel sprats could not stop this development. The large sea fish market area is now also used by other industrial companies, including the GEOMAR Ocean Research Centre.
