NV Cruising Guide

Navigation

For those who are not familiar with the area, it is recommended to approach the unlit marinas and piers only during the day.

The facilities east of Herreninsel are approached from the buoyed fairway of the Trave by heading towards the buoy "Stau N" with the exact course west. From here, head for the bridgeheads of the marina on the Stau and, if necessary, continue to the Trave sailing club. The bridge of the sailing club Siems or the boat harbour Quandt can - depending on the draught - also be approached directly from the fairway.

The sailing club Kattegat, west of the Herreninsel, can be approached most safely at a water depth of approx. 2.5m by steering from the fairway of the Trave with approx. 185° towards the marina. Be aware of the shallows on both sides of the harbour approach.

Berths

We describe here the most important berthing facilities for guest berth holders.

  1. The commercial marina at the dam offers sufficient berths even for larger yachts (2 -4.5m depth) after consultation with the harbour master.
  2. The club-owned facility of the Segler-Verein Trave (SVT) offers berths on 1.8 - 3.5m water depth and a well-kept clubhouse with all amenities. The harbour master directs the berth. Possibility to mast (report Nautische Nachrichten 12/2020)
  3. This small jetty of the sailing club Siems offers boats up to 1.3m draft space.
  4. The small commercial boat harbor Quandt is hardly suitable for guest berths because of its shallow water depth of less than 1.3m.
  5.  In the small club-owned marina of the sailing club Kattegat westl. of the Herreninsel you can find space on 1.2 - 3m by arrangement

Surroundings

Apart from the transport connections to Lübeck and the service offer of the Marina am Stau, there are no supply possibilities.

With appropriate proximity to the motorway, the traffic noise is unpleasant.

NV Land Guide

Single-family homes characterize the immediate vicinity of the marinas from the Herreninsel. The B75 to Lübeck leads since 2005 through the Herren Tunnel under the Trave in the middle of the island, previously it led directly over the island over the former Herrenbrücke, which was demolished in the course of tunnel construction. Opposite on the north shore are extensive industrial and seaport facilities. Via the hiking trail along the banks of the Trave to the north, you reach the fishing village of Gothmund with a small harbour, which with its idyllic thatched cottages takes the visitor back to another time.
