Guest berths can be found at the northern quays of the western commercial harbour basin. Due to the heavy ferry traffic or during SSW storms, the berths here are very restless.

Surroundings

In the large town of Trelleborg you will find all utilities, including a German consulate and a customs office.

However, you will search in vain for sanitary facilities or other services of a marina.

Ferry connection to Travemünde and Sassnitz.

The fact that palm trees grow in Trelleborg is certainly the most unusual thing about this city. However, you shouldn't expect palm groves on every street corner. The exotic growth on Sweden's southernmost latitude is rather modest, but at least it lines the western approach to the city not far from the marina.

During the winter, the palms are housed in greenhouses. Soon after its founding in the 13th century, the town experienced its heyday during the great herring catches. However, it lost its town charter for over 200 years in 1619, as the modest wealth of the Trelleborgians had aroused the envy of merchants in Ystad and Malmö.

For most visitors to what is now a modern industrial town, Trelleborg is the "Gateway to the North", linked to Travemünde and Sassnitz by fast ferries. Duty-free shopping facilities and an original market square with old schonian houses are worth mentioning. However, the town of 24,000 inhabitants does not have a particularly appealing townscape. Even the large ferry harbour is uncomfortable.

The Gamla Torg (Old Market) a few minutes' walk north of the harbour is more pleasant. Wednesdays and Sundays are market days. In the middle of the market is the Sea Serpent, a well-known landmark of Trelleborg. Close by is the town's water tower, some 60 metres high.

The "Ebbehallen" by Swedish sculptor and poet Axel Ebbe (1868-1941) are well worth a visit. A number of his works are on display at the art gallery in Hesekillegatan. The Invalid Monument near the tourist office in Hamngatan is also by Ebbe. It commemorates the exchange of seriously injured German and Russian prisoners of war in the First World War.

The Municipal Museum in Skyttgaarden primarily shows local history.
