Description

The harbour, which is run by the local municipality, is divided into the northern part (Old Harbour) and the adjacent marina to the south, which is suitable for guests with a draught of up to 2 m.

Dragør is a small, cosy town with numerous restaurants. In the town and harbor, you can feel the traditional fishing life with thatched-roof houses, narrow cobbled streets and historic buildings. Beaches and meadows in the immediate vicinity invite you to experience nature.

The town has all modern facilities as well as an attractive shopping street that stretches all the way to the harbor. The nearby city center offers further shopping opportunities. There are also good connections to Copenhagen: public transport runs to the capital approximately every 10 minutes.

NV Cruising Guide

Navigation

At night, entry is difficult for those unfamiliar with the area.

North harbour

The old harbour is approached from the "Drogden" fairway via a buoyed and lighted dredged channel (3.5m water depth) at 254° (leading light Iso.R.2s3M).

Yacht harbour

The marina to the south is approached at approx. 235° via a buoyed channel with a water depth of 2.2 m, which - like the marina itself - tends to silting up. It is best to stay close to the bridgeheads in the harbor, where you can lie in about 2m of water. The moat around the fort south of the marina, with its shallow depth, is used by locals as a small boat harbor and is unsuitable for guest boats.

Old ferry port

The former ferry port with a service quay, where diesel is sold and waste water tanks can be emptied, is located between the two areas. The Dragør pilot station is located in the same harbor basin - incoming ships are required to take pilot traffic into consideration.

Berths

The harbor facilities include several barbecue areas, a launderette in the marina and free Wi-Fi throughout the area. Bicycles can be rented at the tourist information office or at the port office.

The port office is open daily from June 1 to August 31 from 08:00-10:00 and from 16:00-17:30.

Surroundings

The old town, which is well worth seeing, offers good supply options, including repair facilities at a small boatyard and a diesel filling station in the northern harbor.

NV Land Guide

The charm of days gone by clings to this beautiful town. The cozy cobblestone streets, homely old houses and pubs, garlands of hollyhocks, lovingly tended gardens and much more make Dragør an extremely popular destination for pleasure boaters. The town's heyday was the time of the great herring catches in the Middle Ages. The Hanseatic cities were particularly interested in the salted herring as a commodity. Many Danish fishermen and farmers came here during the fishing season to take part in the fish markets and get a slice of the prosperity pie. Because almost all economic life was centered on herring, Dragør quickly went downhill when the herring runs suddenly stopped at the end of the 18th century. A royal decree became a lifeline - the designation as a pilot town. Many fishermen and traders quickly became pilots. Seamen also came and settled here permanently.

Timbered houses from this period in the late 17th and early 18th centuries can be found on Jens Eyberts Plads, southwest of the old harbor. A whole series of houses were designed by the architect Blickmann. Plans drawn by him can be seen in the Dragør Museum at the old harbor. The maritime past is of course one of the main themes of this museum, which is well worth a visit. The museum director Peter Aagaard, who speaks German and English, is happy to answer visitors' questions.

The works of the marine painter Christian Mølsted, most of which were created around 1900, are the focus of the Mølsted Museum in Blegerstræde. The oil paintings and ink drawings also include city motifs. The Amager Museum south of Kastrup Airport in Magleby displays traditional costumes and tools from the island's past.

Dutch gardeners settled on Amager in 1521. They had been commissioned by King Christian II to supply Copenhagen with fruit, vegetables and flowers. The lively market streets are a remnant of the Dutch era.

Yellow is the dominant color in Dragør. Almost all the houses in the old town are painted in a vibrant, rich yellow. Unfortunately, you can't see much of the old buildings because the residents have hidden themselves away from tourists behind man-high fences and walls. Malicious tongues claim that the fences are to protect them from the Swedes who indulge in unrestrained alcohol consumption here. Visitors disappointed by the walls are somewhat compensated for by the mallows that climb up the fences.

Dragør is now a busy port for the crossing to Sweden. The noise from nearby Kastrup Airport is particularly annoying when planes fly over Dragør in easterly winds. The old pilot house with the pilot tower at the harbor was still in use until a few years ago. In 1910, the Dragør fortress to the south of the harbor was built. Owned by the Ministry of Defense, it is only open to visitors on certain days.
