NV Cruising Guide

Navigation

The approach is at 122° via a buoyed passage between "Snøde-Rev" and "Eggeløkke Rev" (at night: leading light 2 F.G). Near the entrance, steer slightly north of the leading light line between the two unlit fairway buoys towards the harbor. South of the entrance, towards the breakwater, there is a shoal with a depth of 0.5 m, which tends to silt up further. A good landmark are the two windmills north of the harbor.

Note: Depth in the harbor irregular at less than 2m!

Berths

Guest yachts moor in this narrow, often crowded harbor according to the harbor master's instructions (about 2m water depth).

Surroundings

For this small place, there are hardly any utilities!

NV Land Guide

For many decades the port of Dageløkke, built by Tranekær Manor in 1898, was a berth for numerous fishing boats with modest facilities around the small dock. The image of the harbor, originally built for shipping vegetables, has changed dramatically. Today, a port center offers a wide range of recreational facilities. With an indoor swimming pool, table tennis rooms and even a sauna, the physical well-being of vacationers is taken care of. A children's playground is available and also the supermarket is not missing. The leisure offer is mainly due to the vacation center Dageløkke, where there are more than 100 vacation homes. So Dageløkke is not one of the particularly cozy places.

But in the scenic surroundings are some attractions to be found. South of the village, for example, is Ritterqut Eqeløkke, whose park is open to visitors on Sundays and public holidays from 9 am to 6 pm. The estate became famous through the romantic writings of the well-known Danish pastor and rebel against the established church, N.F.S. Grundtvig, who took a position as a tutor there around 1805 and fell unhappily in love with his pupil's mother. His unrequited love for the major's wife, Constanze Leth, is said to have led him to seek more knowledge in order to forget his love. Grundtvig was involved in the folk high school movement, which advocated for educational opportunities for the common people in order to give them more of a voice in society. He also campaigned for a more humane and cheerful Christianity.

A trip to Tranekær Castle, further south, is worthwhile. The island of Langeland was once ruled from Tranekær Castle. Located on a hill, the castle is surrounded by an artificial lake and a moat. It is the oldest secular building still inhabited in Denmark. The English-style castle park can be visited along marked paths. The castle itself cannot be visited. The well-preserved houses from around 1800 south of the castle once housed the servants. The village at the foot of the noble seat housed body servants, footmen, grooms, musicians, hunters, gardeners and many more. The village inn has been a royally privileged inn since 1803. Tranekær church, which is worth seeing, is in essence a vaulted nave from 1450 with a tower on the north side.

The development of milling and the history of Langeland's many mills is shown at Tranekær Castle Mill. The castle of 1846 first turned the blades of the mill, which stands one kilometer north of the castle on the route between Tranekær and Lejbølle. Today it is owned by the Association of Danish Mills, which has opened it to the public. Langeland is located in a very good windmill area, with an average wind speed of over five meters per second. After all, eleven of the island's once numerous mills are still standing today -- The specialty of "Dageløkke Kro" at the harbor of Dageløkke is fresh fish.
