NV Land Guide

The village on the island, one kilometer from Grevebroen harbour, has just under 200 inhabitants who live mainly from farming, fishing and tourism. There is a krog in the village. One of the tourist attractions of the pretty village, which is attracting more and more visitors, are the lovingly laid out flower gardens.

The maypole is the island's landmark. It stands in a small square by the merchant's store. During the merry month, the inhabitants of Strynø gather and erect the newly painted and decorated maypole.

Originally, people gathered here around an old beech tree to dance into May, but it was blown over in a stormy night.

The mill on Strynø was built by two inhabitants of the island of Ærø in 1832. It is located on the west side of the island very close to the beach, from where there is a magnificent view of the now uninhabited island of Strynø Kalv. In the 19th century, the inhabitants of other islands - such as Strynø Kalv and Birkholm - used the mill.

Comments
