NV Cruising Guide

Navigation

The approach to the unlit harbour is only recommended during the day. It is done via the fairway of Assens with 300° to the ferry dock of Bågø, then enter the harbour open to the northeast. From the "Fyrrenden" in the west of the island, the harbour should not be approached, as from the disused Bågø lighthouse the shoal "Bågø Flak" extends far to the south-east. Directly to the east of the harbour are set nets.

Caution: Due to the ferry's screw water, it is not advisable to pass the harbour entrance when the ferry is at the jetty (usually only for a short time)

Berths

Mooring at the middle or western jetty at 2.5 - 3m water depth. The ferry jetty must remain clear.

Guest berths as of 6/2020

7 - 11 m      136 DKr

Surroundings

The scenic harbour offers limited supply possibilities (kiosk at the harbour). On weekends, the berthing possibilities are severely limited by guests from Assens.

There is a wonderful barbecue place at the harbour.

Bågø and the neighbouring island of Årø are often mentioned in the same breath. The reason for this is not only the short distance between the two islands, but also their similarity. Bågø is about the same size and flat as its southwestern neighbour. The highest point is 8 metres high and offers a good view from there. However, there are no historical parallels between the two islands in the Little Belt. Bågø has always belonged to the Danish Kingdom, while Årø was part of the German Empire from 1864 until Danish reunification in 1920. Today, about 30 inhabitants live permanently on the island, after the war there were more than twice as many.

Once again, a common feature is that Årø and Bågø were not spared the great storm surge of 1872. Only the few elevations of Bågø were still peeking out of the water at that time.

Bågø - like its sister Årø - is one of the child-friendly places. There is plenty of space for children to play, little traffic and a beach near the harbour.

The supply possibilities are not very good. Fresh rolls can be ordered at the kiosk the day before until 6pm. About two kilometres from the harbour lies the idyllic village of Bågø. Here you will notice the well-kept gardens, which form an effective contrast to the original island landscape. The bicycle rental at the harbour offers the possibility to explore the place and the island.

Bågø is an ideal breeding area for numerous bird species, as it consists mostly of wide beach areas and marshes and thus attracts many ornithologists.  Excursion possibilities arise from the ferry connection to Assens. In the former school is a seminar for natural history.

Tolle Wanderrrouten. Fahrräder zum ausleihen schon etwas in die Jahre gekommen, aber noch i.o.. Einen Besuch wert.
