NV Cruising Guide

Navigation

The approach to the unlit harbor is only recommended during the day. It is via the fairway from Assens at 300° to the Bågø ferry pier, then enter the harbor, which is open to the northeast. The harbor should not be approached from "Fyrrenden" in the west of the island, as the shoal "Bågø Flak" extends far to the southeast from the disused Bågø lighthouse.

Directly east of the harbor are gillnets: Due to the ferry's screw water, it is not advisable to pass the harbor entrance when the ferry is moored at the jetty (usually only for a short time)

Berths

Mooring at the central or western jetty at 2.5 - 3 m water depth with stern piles or at the north-western or north-eastern pier. The ferry pier outside the harbor must remain free.

The picturesque harbor offers limited supply options (kiosk at the harbor). At weekends, the mooring options are severely limited by guests from Assens.

There is a wonderful barbecue area at the harbor.

NV Land Guide

Bågø and the neighboring island of Årø are often mentioned in the same breath. The reason for this is not only the short distance between the two islands, but also their similarity. Bågø is about as large and flat as its south-western neighbor. The highest point is 8 meters high and offers a good view from there. However, there are no historical parallels between the two islands in the Little Belt. Bågø always belonged to the Danish kingdom, while Årø was part of the German Empire from 1864 until Danish reunification in 1920. Today, around 30 inhabitants live permanently on the island, after the war there were more than twice as many.

Another similarity is that Årø and Bågø were not spared by the great storm surge of 1872. Only the few elevations of Bågø still protruded from the water at that time.

Like its sister Årø, Bågø is one of the most child-friendly places. There is plenty of space for children to play, little traffic and a beach close to the harbor.

The supply options are not very good. Fresh bread rolls can be ordered from the kiosk until 6 pm the day before. The idyllic village of Bågø is around two kilometers from the harbour. The well-tended gardens are a striking contrast to the unspoilt island landscape. The bicycle rental service at the harbor offers the opportunity to explore the village and the island.

Bågø is an ideal breeding area for numerous bird species, as it consists mainly of wide beach areas and marshland and thus attracts many ornithologists.

Excursions are possible via the ferry connection to Assens. There is a natural history seminar in the former school.

Comments

Tolle Wanderrrouten. Fahrräder zum ausleihen schon etwas in die Jahre gekommen, aber noch i.o.. Einen Besuch wert.
