Description

A new harbor basin was recently built north of the mouth of the Dubračina River. This will hopefully relieve the small harbor to the south. The fuel station at the quay has a water depth of 2.5 meters.

Today, Crikvenica is an extensive holiday resort with restaurants, bars, and more. This historic town was named after the monastery church (crkva), which was founded in 1412 by Prince Nikola Frankopan IV. Ruins of Roman villas have been discovered, as well as paleontological finds in the Vrtare Male Cave – including skeletons of elephants, cave lions, rhinoceroses, and other species, estimated to be around 30,000 years old.

The latest excavations show that in the 1st century BC, the settlement was one of the major centers in the region, featuring one of the largest pottery productions of its time. Numerous remains of ceramics and amphorae have been found.
